Welcome Message from the Conference General Chairs

Welcome to the North America’s inaugural version of NEMO, IEEE MTT Society’s annual focal event on Numerical Electromagnetic and Multiphysics Modeling and Optimization.

Created by the IEEE MTT Society, and started in 2014, the conference will be held annually, rotating between Europe, North America, and Asia. The year 2015 marks a year of solid growth of NEMO, such as growth in paper submissions, participation, industry support, and vendor exhibition. With participation from researchers and designers from North America, Europe, Asia, South America, Oceania and Africa, NEMO is quickly establishing itself into an influential global forum in our technical field.

NEMO2015 aims to stimulate discussions and explorations of “disruptive” technologies in addition to traditional topics. The focusing theme of the event will make our technical exchange extremely effective. From young to well-known researchers, from graduate students to professors, from industry designers to software vendors, the strong common interests among all participants will make your networking highly effective and relevant. Prominent software industry executives including Dr. Zoltan Cendes (Ansoft/ANSYS), Dr. Jim Rautio (Sonnet), Dr. C.J. Reddy (Altair/FEKO), Dr. Peter Thoma (CST), and software developer Dr. Fritz Arndt (WASP-NET) will give visionary plenary talks in NEMO2015. Industry exhibitions and MicroApp talks showcase the latest in commercial software. We look forward to an exciting event filled with the most advanced and most forward looking in EM/multiphysics modeling and optimization.

With the dramatic technology development, and the rapidly expanding role of electromagnetic/multiphysics modeling and optimization, NEMO will help shape the future directions for our area and our community. Your participation in NEMO2015 (especially the inaugural version) will contribute to the NEMO direction, and subsequently the direction of the area for years to come.

The conference banquet will be held in Fairmont Chateau Laurier in the evening of Thursday August 13, 2015. The best student paper award will also be presented during the banquet. The historic Chateau was opened in 1912 by Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Canada’s 7th Prime Minister, and has registry graced by King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II and her consort Prince Phillip, Winston Churchill, Charles de Gaulle and former US President Hoover. The Chateau is located immediately besides the Canadian Parliament Buildings on the west, and surrounded by the Government Conference Center, National Arts Centre, Rideau Center (shopping mall), Byward Market (concentration of restaurants and gift shops), and Major Hill’s Park with National Gallery of Canada across the park. The Chateau backs onto the Ottawa River overseeing the iconic Canadian Museum of History across the river.

We welcome all delegates to the true North, Elegant & Majestic Ottawa (NEMO), to share and munch numerical recipes in NEMO2015.
